The MoT Files: Top 10 MPVs for passing first time
The MPV might be a relatively unfashionable choice these days, with buyers preferring the high-up driving position of an SUV, but there remains a place for the multi-purpose vehicle, with families that need practical and affordable transport.
When it comes to the MoT, there are lots of capable and durable MPVs on offer. We’ve crunched the Government figures to uncover the very best for passing the first test. These cars were first tested in 2016, so were initially registered in 2013.
Skoda Roomster - 83.6% pass rate
The Skoda Roomster is the Yeti SUV’s sensible sibling, with a high cabin that offers lots of head room for passengers and big windows that let in plenty of light. Despite those big windows, it is the ‘driver’s view of the road’ section of the MoT test that lets the Roomster down at its first MoT – 7.9 per cent fail due to their windscreen wipers.
It also suffers issues with its registration plate light, and its seat belts. The Roomster is 170 per cent more likely than the average to fail due to the latter, but the numbers of cars involved are relatively small so owners need not be unduly worried.
