The MoT Files: Top 10 MPVs for passing first time
The MPV might be a relatively unfashionable choice these days, with buyers preferring the high-up driving position of an SUV, but there remains a place for the multi-purpose vehicle, with families that need practical and affordable transport.
When it comes to the MoT, there are lots of capable and durable MPVs on offer. We’ve crunched the Government figures to uncover the very best for passing the first test. These cars were first tested in 2016, so were initially registered in 2013.
Toyota Prius+ - 84.4% pass rate
Hybrids might not be the best cars for high levels of motorway miles, but it seems that the 2016 MoT tests saw several examples of the Toyota Prius+ taking their test having covered between 90,000 and 100,000 miles since they were registered just three years earlier.
Those that had piled on the miles didn’t seem to feel it come MoT time, as 82.5 per cent of them made it through their test first time – only marginally lower than the Toyota’s overall score of 84.4 per cent. Most of those that failed did so because of its lights, and 4.9 per cent of failures were down to something that is a cheap and easy fix – the registration plate light bulb.
