The MoT Files: Top 10 MPVs for passing first time
The MPV might be a relatively unfashionable choice these days, with buyers preferring the high-up driving position of an SUV, but there remains a place for the multi-purpose vehicle, with families that need practical and affordable transport.
When it comes to the MoT, there are lots of capable and durable MPVs on offer. We’ve crunched the Government figures to uncover the very best for passing the first test. These cars were first tested in 2016, so were initially registered in 2013.
Volkswagen Touran - 85.2% pass rate
There will be plenty of Touran owners who will have kicked themselves once they got the call saying their car had failed its first MoT. This is because the Tourans tested in 2016 were 68 per cent more likely to fail due to their tyres. If the owners had not put off replacing the rubber then they would likely have had a clean bill of health – it is more likely than most to meet the standards on its lights, driver’s view of the road and on the brakes.
The Touran isn’t exactly a thrilling car, with the model that was on sale in 2013 one that didn’t differ greatly to the version that was originally launched in 2003. It continued to be sold until 2015, though, so if owners of cars built after 2013 check their tyres, then they stand a good chance of their car passing its first MoT when it is due.
