The MoT Files: £5000 cars with the lowest MoT pass rate
These are the £5000 used cars with the highest MoT failure rates. In some cases, 50 per cent of these secondhand buys will fail the annual test, which means costly repairs and potential problems for owners further down the road.

We thought twice about featuring this car in this list, since the majority of used Citroen C2s you’ll find for sale cost much less than £5000. But if you look at the finer detail of the C2 MoT files you’ll find even low mileage, newer examples have a poor pass rate.
Suspension problems are the most-common cause for failure too – which are pricier to fix than the usual bulbs and wiper blades that cause problems for the average car. The C2 isn’t exactly a great car anyway – so even if it had stronger MoT performance we’d still struggle to recommend it.
