Is better to have a dealer service history?

My MINI will be six years old in September, 35,000 miles. The MINI dealer service will be £180 including VAT. My local garage could do it cheaper but is that a good idea compared with having a full MINI service record?
The answer to this question will very much depend on your long term plans for the car.

There are lots of excellent, independent BMW/MINI specialists. But a vehicle with a full dealer stamped service history will always be more desirable and valuable than one without. However, if you plan to own the car for 10 years then the savings you will get via independent garage servicing will be considerable over the long term.
