Does a 90,000-mile Volkswagen Golf need a timing belt change?

A 2005 Volkswagen Golf with 90,000 miles has no record of the timing belt being changed. Should it be done and should the work be done at an authorised dealer?
It needs to be done. Change the belt, tensioner, small pulleys and water pump. Get it done by an independent VAG specialist who will know what he's doing and will be cheaper than a Volkswagen franchise.
