Engine damage from oil loss and overfill

What would be the difference in damage from an oil loss causing the engine to stop and oil over fill? Initial inspection from taking the sump off is a bent con rod. The head has not been removed as yet.
Can't categorically say that an overfill would cause a bent rod. It's possible that, like ingested floodwater, excess oil in a combustion chamber could cause hydraulic lock (could not be compressed) and would bend a conrod.
