Is 45,000 miles too early to change the timing belt on my Vauxhall Astra?
I have a 2006 1800 Vauxhall Astra Club first with 45,000 miles on the clock. When it was serviced (at a Vauxhall garage) and the MoT was renewed I enquired when the timing belt should be changed. The service desk clerk thought for a moment and said "Any time now, shall I book it in?" I drive the car fairly gently and my reaction was that this mileage figure was on the low side. Do you have a view on the appropriate mileage for a timing belt change?
It's always a good idea to renew the timing belt sooner rather than later. It isn't mileage that strains timing belts, it's the number of cold starts.
