Just bought a 1992 BMW 3 Series - what should I check?
I have just purchased an immaculate 1992 BMW E36 320i coupe with documented 45,000 miles. As a precaution I am going to change all fluids, water pump and thermostat. Also I have tried to remove the wheels to check the condition of the discs and I cannot get them off. Are there any tricks of the trade you can suggest and anything else I should check on this car.
For the wheels, first buy a tin or tube of Copperease grease from Halfords or similar. To get the wheels off, slacken the bolts very slightly with all wheels on the ground, then push the car sideways and its weight should snap the alloys off the hubs, yet the bolts will retain the wheels in place. Before replacing the wheels, smear a thin coating of Copperease over the hubs. The tyres might be past their best. More: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/bmw/3-series-e36-199...d
