Does my car battery need replacing?
I have a 2016 Mercedes E220 Bluetec. The battery seems to be depleting quickly during cold weather. I have already charged it twice with portable charger but sometimes it would not start on very cold mornings. I do alternate between using it and a Honda Civic I also own, which behaves fine. Could it be that I need a battery replacement? It seems to be a very specialised construction and not easy to get to. Mercedes Benz might charge me a lot to supply and replace it.
Given the age of the battery and the requirement to keep charging it we would suggest that it now requires replacing. The cold weather will have more effect on a failing battery. Also note that you have a auxiliary battery fitted (in the engine compartment). The main battery is in the boot of the car. We would suggest that you check with your dealership on the cost of replacement and also check with a local independent Mercedes garage and compare the costs before hand as the dealership will also be more expensive. If replacing yourself we would suggest replacing with a Bosch battery.
