When should I replace the oil on my Audi SQ5 hybrid?
I drive a 2020 Audi SQ5 mild-hybrid. As I drive less than 5,000 miles per annum, I asked Audi to change my oil as it's a year old. They said it was unnecessary as the schedule is two years. Do you think this is a wise move?
As a general rule, I recommend an oil and filter change every 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first). Oil can lose its lubricity over time and the filter can also become clogged up.
That said, oil technology has improved in recent years and the engine in some hybrid cars will not suffer the same wear and tear as an ICE vehicle. For example, when you start the car from cold, it will pull away under the power of the electric motor - saving your engine from working hard before its fluids have had the chance to warm up.
If you intend to keep the car for a long time, I'd suggest sticking with the annual oil change. However, if you think you'll change it in three or four years, you may be fine with a fluid change every two years.
