"Failed to turn up, left me stuck with no car"
By Chris Hyman, 22 April 2024

Had a tyre fitting booked between 12-4 Sunday but didn’t turn up. They tried to call at 8:15am but i missed the call, tried to call them back but phone line closed all day (even though message said it was open 10-4) Waited in all day and they really let me down and now I can’t get to work tonight. Didn’t even try to call me again to tell me so I could sort something else out. They did manage to send an invoice at 4pm saying job complete and take the money though!! Still no call 1 day later and now called them on hold trying to get money back as I to get an emergency tyre fitting and paid much more as needed it quick. Why take orders if you can't fill them and why only try to call customer once at 8:15 and then close your phone lines.

"Did not have tools for the job. "
By James Gay, 27 April 2021

I placed an order for four replacement tyres and four TPMS valve maintenance. The fitter arrived and on the first tyre broke the TPMS valve stating it was already damaged, it wasn't. The last tyre he came to he was unable to remove the TPMS valve because he didn't have the correct tools. He advised me that by trying to remove the valve it could get damaged and made me sign a disclaimer. but it was already damaged by then. In the end he left the damaged valve in situ and didn't fit the tyre. Halfords customer service now say that because I signed a disclaimer they have no responsibility. I can understand this and in retrospect I shouldn't have signed anything. BUT please be aware the fitters do not carry the correct tools for the job which is what caused the problems initially

"Avoid for Battery Fitting "
By Alan Hodgkinson, 11 February 2021
Read More
I ordered a new battery for my car (mini cooper) as it was showing low charge warning. The fitter arrived on time and replaced the battery. I asked if it req'd coding as most cars with stop/start need this to be done. The fitter said it did not as long as any warning lights go out (he did not plug anything into the car to tell him whether it needed to be reset or not). So it appears that they make the decision themselves and not follow any manufacturer's recommendations. After he left, I refreshed my knowledge of how the system works on these cars and saw that it did need coding as the car will continue to charge the new battery at the same rate as it did for the old degraded one which could adversely affect battery life, economy and the car's electrical components. I made a call to the number on my order and they confirmed that it req'd coding and made an appointment for this to be done. On the day of the appointment I received a call to say they would not be attending and to just drive the car for 15 minutes and it will learn itself that it has a new battery and everything will start to work. As the stop/start began to work they said everything was as it should be and the fitter was right to say it wasn't required. This did not explain the fact that the charging system had not been reset. The fitting information online when you purchase a battery explains that professional fitting is advised as it could cause damage to the vehicle's electrical system if not. This is the only reason I chose to have it fitted. The amount of stress and time spent complaining to people who were not listening was not worth it. After over a week of emails backwards and forwards and receiving the same explanation, I was getting nowhere so I contacted my local Halfords garage and explained to them the trouble I was having to just to get the service that I'd payed for. They fitted me in and got my battery coded in 5 minutes with no problem. I would say that if you need a battery, Do not use tyres on the drive. Go to your local Halfords garage and have it fitted. Tyres on the drive are giving Halfords a bad name. Cars systems could be getting damaged and needing costly repairs as a result of the lack of knowledge about these systems, and you will struggle to prove liability should anything go wrong leaving you with a rather large repair bill. It only takes 1 bad experience to stop you using certain companies and word of mouth goes a long way I will never use these again on the back of their unwillingness to put a job right, and I gave them ample opportunity! Thank you to Halfords garage though for putting it right!

"Avoid Tyres on the Drive if you want a dash Cam fitting "
By Anonymous, 18 December 2020
Read More
On the 21st of November 2020 I placed an order for a dash cam to be fitted 5th December. The day before installation, they phoned me to say that they hadn't got any of the model of dash cam in stock and would have to order one. By now they had taken full payment for it. The installation was rescheduled for 9th December. The technician turned up but couldn't carry out the work because he didn't have the correct fuse adapter for my vehicle. I had already given the make, model and registration of my vehicle so they knew exactly what they were fitting it to. The installation was rescheduled (after I had to chase them) for 12th December. One minute before the technician's ETA, I had a phone call to say he had phoned in sick. The installation was rescheduled for 16th December. The installation finally went ahead and all was well until I used the car for the first time today (18th December). After a journey of about 6 miles, the power cables dropped from under the dash board and got wrapped around the brake pedal. Not only could this have caused and accident, but now the dash cam isn't working. They now want me to wait until they can find a technician.

"Did not go at all well."
By Mark Temple, 2 November 2020

Did not go at all well. The tyres were fitted but then couldn't be balanced because the machine was broken – unfortunate, car now not usable at speed, but not a disaster. Expected to someone to come back same day or at the very latest next day. The service from Halfords after that was terrible. They tried but failed three times to get it booked for the subsequent 2 days to carry out the balancing. I spent approx 3 hours on hold overall (took about 30 minutes per call to get through to someone), took a day off work waiting only for them not to turn up. After that phoned again and they said I needed to wait in again and someone would call me to arrange a new time. Didn’t trust that attempt #4 would be any better than attempt #3 so gave up and took the car to a local fitter to complete the wheel balancing, who did it while I waited in 20min. I've asked for a partial/full refund but they said no – not even the mobile fitting price. Originally paid extra for the brand ‘name’ of Halfords, won’t do so again – will use a local firm.

In all honesty, I panicked post placing my order for my tyre fitting with “Halfords Tyres on the Drive” after reading absolute horror stories on this review website... I can confirm that, in my instance, - I am not speaking for everyone - that these are far from true, & not to be put off! I am Glasgow based & booked/paid for one new tyre to be fitted at my home with next-day fitting, & an “anytime appointment.” I received an email at 08:00 the following fitting morning (as it states in the booking instructions) notifying me of my allocated time slot for my fitting. Following this, all was well - the fitter turned up; fitted my tyre perfectly for me within 15 minutes, no hassle or issues or excuses; very kind & punctual; most of all, done a great job. No damages or marks to my vehicle or tyre either! Sadly, I didn’t manage to catch his name but I would happily deal with him again :-). Also cheap tyres, but this actually doesn’t mean cheap quality. This was NOT too good to be true for me. The only reason for one “criticism” is because my time slot was 11:30-15:30 but, the fitter turned up at 09:30 with no phone call or text for pre-warning. However, this was fine as I was home to deal with it anyways & the earlier the job is dealt with, the better too! Brilliant service from Halfords which I recommend & would use again!

"Daylight robbery"

Absolutely shocking service!!!! Went from praising this service to promising never to use them again. I originally ordered two new tyres. The guy came out and advised that I only needed one tyre and a tpms service on the other. He advised me to return one tyre and book the service in which would be much cheaper. So I did. When booking In the service I was told that I had to pay them an extra 5 pounds even though I had only taken one tyre. This is because, now I only had one tyre, that I was being charged a £30 call out fee and it was another £40 charge For the new call out fee for the tpms service. They said they would kindly wavier the £6 cost of the tmps service. So basically I now owed them £5 on top of £130 pounds I had already paid but instead of get two brand new tyres I was now getting one tyre and a £6 valve. Complete daylight robbery. In the end I demand that they fulfil the original order of two tyres and I’ll take the valve business and any future business elsewhere. Why would any pay an additional £70 to loose a tyre and gain a £6 valve. Halfords you really need to reconsider you fees, your policies and your customer service!!!!

Charged £40 for a call-out to change 2 tyres that were not compatible. Their website does NOT make clear that you must check to see if tyres are run-flat, and entering your registration and the magic little numbers will offer you many tyres that are not compatible. Booked 4 tyres to be changed, mechanic arrived checked my wheel lock nut and bolts were all good to do job, then broke my wheel nut lock trying to remove the nuts with an impact gun instead of manual.this also damaged the nut. He spoke to his supervisor and verdict was I the customer needed to fix the problem by taking it to another garage to fix. I was told that I could rebook them at extra charges as it would be seen as a new booking! Called customer services and was told they don't take complaints on the phone I had to write/email! I have been left paying £400 for nothing.i have also been left having to find a new garage to get new set of wheel lock and nuts and get fittings etc.Do not gamble your hard earned money with this company!!

"NEVER USING AGAIN AFTER LETTING ME DOWN 4 TIMES"
By Anonymous, 16 August 2019

Well Silly me for using them AGAIN. this morning was meant to be the 5th time i had used tyres on the drive. Dont get me wrong, they are cheap, the cheapest i have ever found however. 4 out of the 5 times ive used them I have been let down, on the day, once was "the technician has had a family emergency and cant come", todays excuse was the same as the previous 3 times "the suppliers have sent the wrong tyres" I told the woman on the phone it was lies as the technician told me that was a standrd line they spin whn they let a customer down (pass the buck) and i have had that same excuse 3 times now, she seemed embarrassed that she had gone down the suppiers fault route. Id paid £14 extra for a 2 hour time slot as i was driving on holiday in the afternoon, now i have to organise something else within the next 2 1/2 hours. THANKS!!!!! safe to say i will not be using tyres on the drive again, EVER!!! I asked to speak to a supervisor but was told that the supervisor was busy and would call me back this afternoon. that doesnt help me when im going on holiday at noon. i asked, if the supervisor was so busy as they were inundated with complaints and was told "i didnt say he was dealng with complaints" So i can only assume that the supervisor has more pressing things to do than deal with customers complaints. WOW, if i ran my business like that i would have ZERO customers. NOT HAPPY

Technician spent less than 10 minutes from parking to leaving. Didn't fit the tyres I'd paid for but the company charged me £40 as the technician said he couldn't get the wheels off. His advice to me was to go to a garage as they will be able to do it. Wish I'd known that before ordering. Make sure you can take the wheels off your car before ordering with this firm. If you can't they won't.

I have heard some bad stories about this company but needed tyres urgently and they could fit a day earlier than anyone else. organised a date and time, no attempt to contact me and then sent me an email saying they have tried to contact me several times. I had zero missed calls and no attempt was made by the driver to come and knock on as any normal person would do. I was told that the drivers do not leave their vans all day even for a toilet break or food, which I found hard to believe and they then tried to charge me £40 because their employee installers who won't get off there backside to walk 10 feet. I do not recommend. Terrible service never again.

"False economy - regimented, scripted and poor customer service"
By Raj CHOUDHARY, 5 May 2019

I purchased 4 tyres to be fitted on my drive. On the day of booking no one turned up, no message provided, no communication till late evening frustratingly I called only to be informed "we" might have a system issue!! Rearranged booking for another day and three were fitted as the mechanic didn't have the right spares/tool to fit the fourth. I finally managed to get the fourth tyre fitted and balanced at my cost and time at the local garage as the car was towed to the local garage. I then provided a VAT invoice for the refund of fourth tyre change (excluding TMPS and towing charge). Now Tyler Brooks from tyresonthedrive refuses to pay the charge which I had to pay extra since they provided poor service. Stubborn, scripted and poor customer services by the customer agent Taylor Brooks. And speaking of Bridgestone, Amazon vouchers were received two months after more than 10 emails exchanged and the final threat of mis-selling. What seems like a convenient arrangement has turned into a waste of my time and money - false economy.

"Total joke! Avoid at all costs!"

Flat tyre, second-hand VW Touran, I browsed online to find a mobile tyre fitting company, because I'm new to the area and I don't know whether there are any nearby. Found a slot in 4 days, ok, I'll ask my daughter to driver her car. Tyre fitter turned up and said he couldn't get my wheel nuts off because I didn't have the right tools. What? Aren't they supposed to have them? So the guy says the next day someone else would come with the right tools. Rang the company, the lady repeated over and over that they had sent a text saying that I should provide the socket, so it was my fault. After 20 minutes on the phone she told me to take a picture of the wheel to see if the tyre fitters could find the right tool. Sent the pictures. They said that my car (I swear my car is not a Ferrari or anything special) need its own socket and they don't have it. So they can't do anything at all. No suggestion on what I can solve the problem, no empathy whatsoever, the kind of attitude saying "it's your fault, YOU lost the tools to fit the tyre! (Actually I bought this car second hand and this was the first time I had a flat tyre) Am I too naive assuming that if I call a tyre fitter they SHOULD BE ABLE to do the job? Translation: they are - allegedly - tyre fitters with - allegedly - hundreds of tyre brands but they don't have the tools to fit them??? I was fuming, rang my garage and they say "don't worry, inflate the tyre, drive carefully and we'll fix it". Believe it or not, in a matter of seconds my angel mechanic remove the nuts with his NORMAL tools and in 15 minutes repaired the tyre. I was so appalled that I took a video. The whole operation cost me £ 30 because the tyre is still good. Tyres On The Drive refunded the cost of the TWO tyres I had ordered but did not refund the "visit" of their INCOMPETENT tyre fitter. I sent them an email with video and all with no avail. Of course. What did I expect? that their customer service was someone different from the company itself?! If only I had seen these reviews! I would have saved 4 days of waiting, £40 and most of all, peace of mind!

"Utterly disgusted; Utterly disappointed; Buyer Beware...."
By Stephen Raphael, 25 February 2019

Why oh why did I not read the reviews…. Imagine having two new tyres fitted on a Friday afternoon and then waking up Saturday morning to find one completely flat. On calling the company, I was informed that they could get someone out to take a look on Tuesday. Pushing them I bit, they agreed to let me pump up the tyre and take it to a local garage; get a report and an invoice and they would re-imburse if at fault. Okay I thought, these things happen. Sure enough, our fabulous local garage got me in at 11.30 on the Saturday I'd hoped to avoid spending on getting tyres changed and quickly diagnosed that the valve and valve holder were loose and leaking air. As instructed I sent over a copy of the report to TOTD and to my great surprise received a reply a couple of days later denying responsibility on the grounds that I had not paid for tyre pressure sensor servicing... I don't know about you, but I don't believe in coincidences - before tyre change, no leaks, after tyre change valve holder loose and leaking air... (oh, and I forgot to mention, the wheels are swapped over left to right, so the tyre pressure sensor is indicating a flat tyre on the opposite side to the one that is actually faulty, to be fair, TOTD did offer to come and rectify this, but that would mean risking their incompetent technicians swapping the tyres on the rims again...). After 2 or 3 emails back and forth I was told that the company would no longer correspond on the matter and here I am. Very very shocked at a total lack of customer service. The amount I was looking to be re-imbursed by the way on a total spend of £460 for 4 tyres - £20. They obviously don't value my custom and they no longer have it...

ABSOLUTLY DO NOT USE TYRES ON THE DRIVE, I ordered 2 new tyres to be fitted on the Saturday lunch, waited in only to get a phone call to say my tyres were not delivered by their supplier, and they had to reschedule for the Sunday morning, I thought ok I can wait another day but had to be done in the morning of the Sunday as I was driving down to France the Sunday lunch and said this has to be done as my tyres were iligal and need changing. They said they were ordering off another supplier and if there is any problems with that delivery we will call you on the Saturday afternoon (sounded to me they already knew they were going to have a problem and teeing it up) however, they said the same thing happening twice with the tyres not being delivered is highly unlikely. So at 16:30 on the Saturday afternoon I get a call from them again and yes you have guessed it, my tyres have not been delivered again so we cannot come and do them now until Tuesday, shocked is not the word, I can now not go to France as my tyres are iligal, they cannot refund my money for 3-5 days and I am left stranded. The delivery excuse for me was a load of rubbish, it’s bank holiday weekend and they are clearly short staffed and using that as an excuse and blaming it on the delivery from the suppliers. DO NOT USE TYRES ON THE DRIVE, they will lie not deliver and just keep changing your fitting date until they have a fitter available this could be days and days ahead as mine kept jut getting put forward and forward. Jokers they are. Use a garage that sells tyres do NOT use them you will be messed about and end up taking time of work and free time waiting and getting your fitting date moved from day to day. Absolute disgrace of a company.

I used tyresonthedrive to replace 2 worn tires on my Nissan Qashqui. I picked them because I was moving house and had loads going on and the ease of having someone come out to me was a massive incentive. Tom arrived and did what I thought was a good job at the time. Only on further inspection did I discover that I had been left with 2 broken valves, a ruined set of caps, and a bill from my local garage of £700 to fix all the problems tyresonthedrive had left me with. I spoke to Martin Alldritt, apparently a senior operations co-ordinator at tyresonthedrive, and discovered they were prepared to do absolutely nothing about the damage caused to my car by their 'technician', or even admit doing anything wrong! They think it is perfectly acceptable to leave customers cars in an unsafe state to drive, and further more, are completely happy that their 'technician' tried to cover up the damage he'd caused to my car. Be warned, this company is a joke run by monkeys. The total bill to fix my car came to £744, so unless you have buckets of cash you're looking to waste I would give these fools a wide berth.
