"Buyer beware, if your new car becomes faulty they probably won’t fix or refund."

Used car bought from pilgrims had a warning light after a couple of weeks. Took back to garage and made the mistake of allowing them an attempt at repair. On receiving car back had to phone garage multiple times to find out what had been repaired. Finally discovered that it was nothing, as in they just reset ECU as the manager put, or deleted fault codes as I would describe it. Warning light came back on days later so phoned garage and the manager agreed to refund, so we delivered car back to them the following morning, completed some paperwork and told it was all sorted. How WRONG that turned out to be. They are refusing a refund because light isn’t on now. They have read multiple fault codes last visit and not repaired anything but insist because they can’t find fault no refund. FAULT CODES DELETED, NOTHING REPAIRED.

"Terrible Service, Zero Accountability"

Based on my recent experience with this dealership, I cannot recommend them with confidence. Our car purchase journey has been nothing short of frustrating and filled with broken promises. From the start, we encountered several issues with the vehicle we were interested in. Cosmetic damage, worn brakes, low oil levels, and a missing wheel nut were just a few of the surprises we discovered upon inspection. The assurances given by the salesperson, Simon, that everything would be fixed before collection gave us hope. However, the problems continued to pile up. Delays in preparation and difficulties with removing the locking wheel nuts resulted in a postponed collection date. Finally, on the day of collection, we found new issues that had not been properly addressed. A persistent whistling noise from the engine and incomplete repairs on the passenger front door were major disappointments. After expressing our concerns, Gary, the director, stepped in to offer a solution. He promised to arrange repairs at a Jaguar dealership, a 6-month RAC Warranty and free delivery of the repaired vehicle. Gary also agreed to reimburse us for the incomplete door repairs. I was assured that the issue would be addressed prior to collection/ delivery and repairs would be conducted at a reputable Jaguar dealer. However, what followed was a series of miscommunication and confusion regarding where the repairs would actually take place. Instead of following through with their initial agreement, they decided to attempt the repairs themselves. Not only did this decision prove to be futile, but it also worsened the situation. The replacement turbo unit they fitted was allegedly noisier than the original one. It became apparent that their attempts were insufficient, leaving us with no vehicle for 4 weeks and and mounting frustration. Throughout this ordeal, I reached out to the dealership numerous times seeking updates and resolutions, only to be met with silence and a complete lack of empathy. Instead of understanding the inconveniences I faced, Gary accused me of pestering him for information. As a customer, I believe it is reasonable to expect transparency and prompt communication, especially when dealing with such significant issues. During my interactions with Gary, he made a shocking admission. He expressed regret for offering to repair the car, stating that he should have simply sold it to someone else with the existing fault, but at a higher price. This revelation demonstrates a complete disregard for customer satisfaction and highlights the dealership's unethical practices. Adding insult to injury, an unauthorized payment of £100 was charged to my bank account without my consent. Despite providing evidence and authorization codes, the dealership denied any involvement and shifted the blame to my bank. This breach of trust further exemplifies their disregard for ethical business practices and it has been almost 2 months and there’s no sign of this money being returned to me. We have since cancelled the sale and the monies have been refunded to our finance provider but we remain massively out of pocket. In my efforts to seek reimbursement for the expenses incurred during this ordeal, I was met with continued silence and inaction. Despite Gary’s initial willingness to consider supporting me financially, they have failed to address my concerns or provide a satisfactory resolution. It is with great disappointment that I write this review. My hope was for a fair and amicable resolution, but instead, I found myself facing unprofessionalism, incompetence, and a lack of accountability from Gary and Pilgrims of March. I strongly advise anyone considering doing business with them to reconsider and look elsewhere for a dealership that values their customers and delivers on their promises. I have taken the necessary steps to escalate this matter by lodging a formal complaint with the Motor Ombudsman. I hope that by sharing my experience, others will be spared from the frustrations and disappointments I have endured.

"A complete rip off in my opinion, with dreadful customer service ."
By Stephen Holloway, 7 February 2018

Took our car to Pilgrims to fix the nearside read door that wouldn't lock. We told Pilgrims that we THOUGHT it was the solenoid. They booked us in and found it wasn't the solenoid but fitted the new one anyway. They didn't do any investigation to find what was causing the door to remain unlocked, didn't call us to ask what we wanted them to do. They just ploughed on and gleefully presenters us with a bill for £223. I called their customer service people to remonstrate. They said it is our fault as we told them it was the solenoid. I said that they are, supposedly, the experts so why couldn't they at least locate the fault and fix it instead of leaving us with an insecure vehicle? The so called customer care person just blamed us again. Never, ever use these cowboy rip off merchants!

Avoid at all cost. Once you have paid their staff are not interested in any problems. Also the "free" warranty covers hardly any parts or issues. We had work done under the warranty and work not covered, which was of a poor standard and loads of corners cut. The customer care and duty of care does not exist, they only care about getting as much money out of you as possible. Don't be fooled this is a car dealership who looks professional are nothing more than a back street, porta cabin "Arthur Daley ".

We drove some distance to view a car we thought looked great. We were guaranteed a 'FREE 3 Year Warranty' and was a little surprised at how great this seemed. We questioned it several times and it was confirmed, no strings attached, an absolutely free three year warranty. We even went home and checked the website and it too, confirmed, a 'FREE 3 Year Warranty'. We searched the website for terms and conditions, and there were none. It looked brilliant. On that basis, we transferred the full cost of the car and agreed to collect it a few days later. Upon arrival we were quickly presented with a page of conditions relating to the warranty. Which stated we were only entitled to the warranty providing we had all services done at Pilgrims. We explained that was not what we were told and furthermore; we probably wouldn't have purchased the car being so far away had we have known. We didn't sign the paper and said we'd go away and think about it. We checked the website when we got home and indeed they were still falsely advertising their warranties. I contacted them that evening. There was no reply but they very quickly added an asterisk and a disclaimer to their falsely advertised warranty. I contacted them again. No reply. My husband contacted them. No reply. He then spoke to the manager, who was dismissive and impolite and offered no fair solution (basically told my husband to lump it). I then contacted Trading Standards who agreed we had a very strong case, especially with our photographic evidence of the website before and after. I formally wrote to the Service Manager explained we were missold. I explained we have a young toddler and my husband works away in the week so travelling long distances for services was not realistic. He sent a rude response stating everyone is busy, we all have to do things (like drive an hour for a service) we don't want to. He was not apologetic, but realising they were in error he offered a courtesy car 'ONLY for services' ie if anything else goes wrong with the car, we're on our own! Any good, trustworthy garage would honour an agreement regardless of whether it was false advertising or not. Instead; they were all very rude, very unprofessional and had absolutely no care for us, the customer. In the end, we have decided to decline the warranty. Simply because we can't trust them to safely, honestly and accurately service or repair our car. They lied to us, then instead of being apologetic and resolving the issue in a prompt and professional manner they ignored correspondence, didn't apologise once and were consistently rude and dismissive. I can't think of anyone I'd be less likely to get my car serviced with. Awful awful awful dealership. I should also mention two months after they claimed they serviced, a service due light popped up and we had to have it re-serviced. With a reputable dealership, obviously.

I purchased a Ford Fiesta Titanium from this company a few weeks ago. I am so happy with the purchase and the help and service I received from the sales and after team was outstanding! We went to view a vauxhall astra 2.0 ex mobility and advertised as close to perfection. I have to say it was and haven't found no faults so far. Have recently noticed the parcel shelf has been damaged which has been replaced, other than that it's perfect. We were dealt with my John whitehead and he was fantastic, so helpful and would happily go back. When we picked up the car they even made sure we had enough fuel to get us home which I can say is a first for me with a garage. Spot on service!!

"Not good, £10,000 car and so rude! "
By Glad I didn't buy, 15 September 2014

I wouldn’t bother. I drove a total of 245 miles to look at a Focus that was advertised on Autotrader as ‘close to perfection.’ I’d phone earlier in the week and was offered £4,500 for my car. I phoned again just before I setting off to make sure the car was still available, how keen do they want their customers to be. On arrival the Focus was not clean and on inspection had a dent over the n/s back wheel, too may stone chips on the front bonnet and more serious the bonnet wasn’t aligned correctly. Not close to perfection. I wasn’t impressed with Simon the salesman, he offered me £3,200 for my car, not good start. I told him I wasn’t happy about the bonnet alignment, he walked off and came back with a metal tape measure and proceeded to measure the gaps in-between the bonnet and the wing, adding to the already damaged paintwork. He said, it’s only 1 mm out (he was using the inch scale but I didn’t say anything) I said hum! He said in a sarcastic manner, what is ‘hum’ supposed to mean. I replied, I’ll leave it thank you and walked away. After 3 days I still cannot believe how rude he was. 245 miles to be spoken to like that, shame on you.

I bought an 09 Mondeo Estate Titanium X TDCi from the dealer principle himself in September 2013. The car was advertised, marketed, valued and sold on the lot as a 2.0 litre and the service book was stamped indicating a full service had been done by them at that time. I later discovered the car to be a 1.8 litre and that a service had 'not' in fact been done. Two crimes were committed here, The Misrepresentation Act of 1967 and Fraud. Upon reporting this to the dealer he admitted the non service in an email but refused to refund me with the approx £500 overpayment, the difference in value between a 1.8 and. 2.0 litre. Despite having photographic evidence of the sign on the screen and the irrefutable email of admittance of fraud shockingly Ford Customer Service, Trading Standards and even my local MP refused to take up my case. In addition to this he took two payments from me of £9,990 on the day of purchase due to his incompetence with the card machine. Upon checking my internet banking it took them four days to refund the money without even an apology from him. There is more.......He also told me that it had had one local owner who was known to them but upon receipt of the V5 weeks later it became clear I was the fourth owner with one owning it for just one month. I also discovered later the car had previously suffered panel and glass damage, it broke down with an 'Engine Malfunction' message and only returned 42mpg on a run. Needless to say I am keen to share my experiences with you so you go there informed and don't suffer the same as me. I have to say though that the service department, when the service was finally done were brilliant.......just be aware of the sales dept!

"Endless trouble taken to find intermittent faults - wonderful!"
By groovgran, 3 October 2012
Read More
Over the 3 years of its life my Mondeo has developed some strange faults - a slipping clutch at 24000 miles, an intermittent and potentially lethal loss of power eventually traced to a wiring loom fault hidden up by the bulkhead, and yesterday a clunk from the back end which sounded exactly like a broken coil spring. Hours later it turned out to be four stones trapped under the bottom of the spring. Every time I take the car in, I am met with politeness and expertise, and better than those, a Service Manager, Stuart, who actually believes me when I say there's something wrong! I cannot recommend Pilgrim's too highly.
