Jim Dickson, Cumbernauld

Car was in for MOT, Service and 2 tyres fitting that were bought on Blackcircles website and sent to the garage for fitting. Took the car in at 8:30. Phoned them at 15:20 and was told it would be ready in 40 minutes and tyres were just being fitted. I was puzzled at that because my front tyres were below legal limit and would fail an MOT. On arrival at 1610 the car was not having tyres ready so I thought it had been done and ready to go but I was told it wasn't ready. 15 minutes later I saw it being driven in for the tyre fitting. At 16:45 the receptionist came to me and said that they didn't do the service because it needed new front brakes and disks and I would need to book it back in for work doing and the service. I went to kwik fit today for a free brake check and they said the discs were OK and didn't need replacing and the pads had 6mm on them and would be good for a few hundred miles. Add this on to the fact I was in kwik fit for 20 minutes and got good advice but the car was at Jim Dixon for 8 hours and only got an MOT then an additional 30 minutes while the tryes were replaced and it's obvious how shocking the service was and to top it off when I went to get my car there was a guy shoving a crow bar through the wheel pushing against the caliper heat shield and he said they were scraping on the wheel which can happen after replacing tyres. I mentioned that to kwik fit and the guy said it sounds like he was trying to break the shield off to get more work. I will not be going there again and would advise anyone to be cautious if they go there.

I noticed and what felt like a nail, stuck in my rear tyre. Went to Jim Dickson in Cumbernauld Village, garage was heaving (always a good sign) but was seen straight away. Explained my concerns and was ushered to a ramp bay and seen straight away. Thankfully the gentleman removed a small piece of granite from the tyre and he checked tyre was not damaged or leaking for me and was so relived at not having to consider a new tyre or repair. No sales talk, no time in waiting and fast friendly and honest service. Was glad I went there as I know I will not get sold anything I don't need. No charge for the time spent dealing with me but would gladly have paid for the service. I would recommend this garage to family and friends. Thanks guys.

As a young women a garage can be intimidating, Jim and the full team make the whole experience so pleasant and are so friendly. On top of the great service they won’t rob you blind like most places. My whole family are repeat customers and I won’t look elsewhere. Excellent!

I knew of Jim Dickson through both local knoweledge and a mutual friend. I was advised on and had fitted 2 x rear tyres and then 2 x front tyres both jobs done professionally and at a good cost and as the car puts out 750 N/Metres of torque at the rear it was essential the tyres were up to the task-so far so good

I have used this garage for years but this last visit was the worst I have ever known. I always leave my car with them early in the morning but the last few times I have been left waiting for my car until 6pm at night. It seems they prefer to work on any car that drops in on the off chance without a booking rather than a car that has been booked in for a week.

I would like to thank jim and his team for all the work there done on my car not a lot of garage would lit you drive away without paying something and find cheap parts as dealers where asking stupid price thanks again guys

I had an interim service this week and was disappointed that I was charged more than had been agreed on booking. I was also very disappointed that the items checked at the interim service were nowhere near as comprehensive as the likes of kwikfit, unfortunately I did not realise that they checked so little when I booked. Also you do not get a checklist signed by the mechanic that gives you some reassurance that they have actually done the work they said they were doing. Very disappointed and do not feel reassured enough to go back there for a car service.

I have only recently moved to the area, and being a lot he female fear being ripped off. They did a repair for me in August, replacing a lead, and could have said all four had been replaced. This month my car was not running right. I gave them the go ahead and do whatever was needed, as I need the car as I can only walk very short distances. They. tested the car and found nothing wrong other than I needed to put different patrol in it sometimes. There was no charge for this. On both occasions my car was collected and returned to me. They could have told me they had done anything and I would have paid. Now I know without doubt I can trust them, and will use them for all things car related. Thank you Alex.

I took a taxi home from a well known tyre chain business where I had left my car to get the tyres changed. The local taxi driver asked me why I had done that instead of taking it to John Dicksons. I said that tyres were tyres. Out of curiosity (and a male instinct to be proven right!) the taxi driver made me phone for a price comparison......it was a third cheaper for the same tyres. I went back to get my car! Over and over again, I have found this to be the case. This garage is always busy so they have no need to cheat you. I was told last week that I needed all my brakes done from the garage where I lease my car and have to get it serviced there. They quoted me £300 for non Honda brake pads. I phoned John Dicksons and they quoted me £200. The honda garage was not pleased but admitted they couldnt match it. I went to John Dicksons. I was told I only needed to get the back done and the front still had a few months wear in them. It is a family business and they cannot be more helpful. I am now 50 but not too old to appreciate the handsome and smiling staff. If I had known Christian men looked like Mr Dickson when I was young, my mother would have had no trouble getting me to church!

Jim Dickson already has an almost cult following thanks to his ability to supply tyres at short notice and cheaper than the "KW" bunch. I recently discovered he also carries out servicing and repairs and booked my car in for new wheel bearing, ball joint, front pads and service. Price came to £250.. I am a very happy customer. It can seem a bit chaotic at first when arriving at the garage (it is VERY popular with those in the know) but things seem to get done very efficiently... the place would make a good case study in time managent. The thing that really separates Jim from others though is his friendly, accomodating manner. I have rarely experienced such good customer service.
