My Skoda Fabia 2.0 consumes a litre of oil every 1000 miles - is this normal?

My 2011 Skoda Fabia 2.0 TFSI consumes about a litre of oil every 1000 miles. The garage has told me this is normal for this engine. Is it normal?
Yes, it is normal. Basically because of Volkswagen Group's policy of switching from recycled running-in oil on the production line to filling the engines with synthetic oil on the line. This tended to prevent the oil rings from properly bedding in, leading to excessive oil consumption later in the engine's life. The EA888 1.8 and 2.0 TSIs were improved from 2013.
