Does my 7-speed DSG 'sealed for life' gearbox need its oil changed at 40,000 miles?
My local Volkswagen garage told me that my 2011 Volkswagen Golf needed its 7-speed DSG gearbox oil changing at 40,000 miles (at a cost of £184). When I presented the car, another staff member told me that the gearbox on my car was sealed for life and would never need an oil change. This is a 1.6 TDI Match. Which story is correct?
Two schools of thought here. After the synthetic/mineral debacle some VAG dealers took the view that the dry clutch 7-speed DSG needed an oil change every 40,000 miles, but the official Volkswagen line is that they don't. The 6-speed wet clutch DSG is a maintenance box and does need fresh oil and filter every 40,000 miles.
