What is the burning smell when I turn off the engine of my Ford Mondeo?

I recently purchased a 2013 Ford Mondeo 1.6 EcoBoost and have noticed after parking it up that a burning smell, similar to when a clutch is overridden, is present. There are no problems with the clutch or brakes and only 15,000 miles on the clock. Any ideas?
You get a burning smell when a DPF is actively regenerating, but this car has a petrol engine so that shouldn't be happening. What it might be is that you are switching off when the turbo is red hot and the turbo oil feed and oil return pipes have become blocked with carbon so what is happening is that the turbo is cooking the oil inside it. Might need those pipes replacing.
