When should I chance the cam belt on my Audi A4?
My 2009 Audi A6 has done just over 60,000 miles. When I had the car serviced, the garage recommended that I should be booking to replace the cam belt; however, a friend who owns a car business says this is nonsense. He claims it will easily go to 100k before needing to be replaced.
I use my car for long trips and tow a caravan. Do I bite the bullet and have the belt replaced?
My advice is yes. Or you could follow your friend's advice and find yourself on the hard shoulder with the caravan and a completely destroyed engine. It needs a timing belt, tensioner and waterpump. All three. £500 job at an independent. Could be as much as £1000 at an Audi dealer.
