Should I buy a car without a service history?

We are looking to buy a 2014 Peugeot 3008 with 19K miles. On discussing things with the dealer he told us they were chasing up the service history as the log book had no stamps. Then we were told he had checked with Peugeot who had advised the first service on the model isn't due until 20,000 miles and that's why there are no stamps in the book. Am a right in thinking this is a bit suspect?
It's not suspect. But I refuse to touch anything that has not had an oil service every 10,000 miles or every 10k miles whichever comes first and for that reason I would not touch this car.
