Are Honda Civics prone to brake problems?

My dealer says that the rear brake calipers on my 2012 diesel Honda Civic are worn and may need replacing at a cost of about £1000. Can this be possible after 30,000 miles?
No previous complaints on the 2012 to current Civic, but the 2006-2012 Civic was quite well known for going through rear discs and pads due to corrosion. Can't see how this adds up to £1000, though, even for new discs, pads and callipers.
