Is it possible to change the gearbox oil on a DSG?
Last week I asked my local Volkswagen dealer about changing the gearbox oil and filter on my 2011 Golf. However, I was told that it has a 'sealed for life system' and therefore does not need it and cannot be done anyway. In view of the adverse publicity about DSG's (although mine has been fine so far) is this correct?
It was designed to be sealed for life and that was its problem because the oil in it became conductive. But if it's really "sealed for life" then quite how have VW dealers throughout the World managed to change the oil in millions of these transmissions from synthetic to mineral? Ask your dealer that question.
