Cam belt failure - is my local garage liable?

I brought a used car from an independent garage 10 months ago with a newly changed cam belt by the same garage. Five months and 8000 miles later the cam belt snapped. The garage has since made a warranty claim on the parts that has just been rejected (seven months later) on the basis that the cam belt was over tensioned. I am told by the garage that I either appeal against the decision or pick up the bill myself. What are my options now?
Nothing to do with the warranty on the part. Everything to do with the garage. Take the written evidence that the belt was over-tensioned to the small claims track of the county court and sue the garage for the full cost of the repair. Law here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
