BMW 3 Series Touring differential fault

My 2007 BMW 3 Series Touring has been diagnosed as a differential problem. The car has covered 64,000 miles and has a full BMW service history. I’ve been quoted £1400 plus fitting for a new diff, but can’t help think the fault lies in the bearings. I’ve spoken to Quaife Engineering and they have agreed that it sounds like a bearings fault, but I’m not sure how to progress. Would BMW share the cost if it is a new diff given the history of the car?
First ask if BMW will contribute to a new diff. If they won't, then take the Quaife route of having the just bearings replaced.
