Service intervals on a B-Class?

I have just purchased a Mercedes-Benz B180SE petrol automatic and expect delivery next month. I understand that the service interval is every two years. I expect to drive 6000 miles a year, mostly on local B roads. Mercedes-Benz suggests I pay £27 per month towards this by direct debit. If the service was every year, that might represent reasonable value, but every other year looks excessive. Should I accept a service every other year? And what are your thoughts on the £27 monthly payment?
Your car needs a service and particularly an oil and filter change every year. Do not take up the service contract. Pay to have it serviced every year.
