My BMW needs a new timing chain - is this normal?
I just bought a secondhand BMW and the timing chain needs replacing. I wondered if you have ever looked into this at all?
It's quite common because, on the variable service plan, the engine oil is not changed frequently enough. It needs to be changed at least every year or every 10,000 miles, whichever comes first, or contaminants in the oil reduce the oil flow to the timing chain tensioner. It's even better to change it every 5000 miles.
