When to change the S40 cam belt?
My Volvo S40 2.0 D has now covered 72,000 troublefree miles. The Volvo service sheet advises cam belt change at something like 140,000, or 10 years.
My independent Volvo service agent reports no probs, as the belt is very substantial. It does seem a lot of miles though; what is your view? If I keep the car, I shall change the belt in the next year, but I'm very impressed with the new V40, and might change the car.
I have not heard of many failures of the belt on this engine. It had actually proved to be a far better bet than the VAG 2.0 TDI on which a new belt and waterpump are required every 40k miles. But I think you might be starting to push it. More likely to make it to next year than not, but not guaranteed.
