Could we postpone a full service on our Toyota Yaris due to its low mileage?
We have a 2009 Toyota Yaris with a mileage of only 2,400 on the clock after two years. The car received its first service at 1,023 miles. Although it would normally be due for a full service (quoted at £274 by the local Toyota garage) we wonder if this is really necessary, given the low usage. Could it be postponed for 12 months, given that many cars (my own included) work on a servicing interval of, say, 10,000 miles?
It's extremely necessary because your low mileage is actually more harmful to the car than 5,000 miles a year would be. The oil will almost inevitably be badly contaminated from rarely getting the engine to running temperature.
