Is it okay to replace just one suspension spring at a time?

My 2017 Volvo V40 that has done 61,000 miles and has a broken front spring. Is this a common occurrence ? The car has an extended Volvo but when I asked about them paying for it I didn't get a direct answer. Should both springs be changed or is it acceptable to change just the broken one?
Yes it is acceptable to change just one spring. However given the mileage and in terms of good engineering practice, we would recommend that both springs are replaced.
