The MoT Files: 20 cars with the lowest MoT pass rates
These are the UK’s worst cars for passing the MoT. This list is compiled mostly of older cars because, as can be expected, they have a lot more wear and tear than newer vehicles.
We've only listed models of which more than 5000 were tested in 2016, which means super-exotic cars are omitted.
Daewoo Matiz - 41.6% pass rate
Daewoo is no more and as a low cost car when it was new, it's little surprise to find the dimunitive Matiz struggling at the annual MoT. The most common reason for failure is headlights and electrical issues, followed by suspension. However, the Daewoo Matiz was superseded by the Chevrolet Matiz (56.3 per cent pass rate) in 2005. Meaning that, despite the two cars being more or less the same, the latest generation Matiz does better simply because it's newer.
