"Avoid "

bought a used car from MT Motors Gildersome Limited (run by Mark Taylor) in August last year via Zuto Finance (zero-deposit agreement). The vehicle was described as around 10 years old, which was clear in the paperwork. Shortly after collecting it, I noticed several issues that weren’t apparent during pickup or any pre-sale checks/MOT: • Faulty sound system (barely functional). • Rear brakes in poor condition. • Badly corroded rear springs. • NOx sensor fault (triggering engine warning light and potential emissions problems). • Rear windows not closing properly. I contacted the garage to report these and discuss resolution. The response was dismissive (e.g., “it’s a second-hand car—what do you expect?”), and they laughed off concerns over the phone. They insisted the car should be returned for inspection, but I didn’t feel comfortable doing so given the initial interaction. I ended up paying thousands out of pocket for repairs at independent garages/Mercedes specialists to make it safe and drivable (including addressing the sensor, brakes, etc.). The garage offered a full refund at one point (which I didn’t accept), but overall, the handling felt unprofessional and unhelpful. They later posted a detailed public response disputing my account, claiming initial demands were for unrelated upgrades (e.g., speaker system, tints, seatbelt mark), no return for inspection, and no ombudsman involvement—which differs from my recollection of events. Separately, I had success raising a different used-car finance complaint (with Moneybarn, not Zuto) through the Financial Ombudsman Service, where they provisionally viewed partial reimbursement for mechanical issues as fair, and I accepted their offer for some repair/refund support. This reinforced for me the value of pursuing complaints formally when dealers/finance companies don’t resolve issues satisfactorily. I’m sharing this as a genuine warning: Used cars can have problems, but the lack of accountability here was frustrating and costly. Check recent reviews (including their responses), get independent inspections, and consider your rights under the Consumer Rights Act before buying. Plenty of honest dealers out there—better safe than sorry. Avoid if possible, or proceed with caution.

They overcharged me a fortune for a simple task, £60 for basically nothing. Will avoid at all costs in future. Glad it wasn't a big job I asked them to do.

"Expensive and totally wreck your car"

Avoid - Avoid Avoid! Paid £1000 for work doing, the car wasn't right so took it back, had to pay another £1500 to put it right, the car then had 35 electrical faults showing after they had messed with it- basically told me the car is wrecked and denied any responsibility! Claim they are experts but if you value your car - please do not take it to them, you will seriously regret it.

"UNRELIABLE"

I saw on a vRS Facebook page that Kyle Bradford was breaking an 08 Octavia vRS model car. We had a discussion and HE agreed that I could pick the door cards off the car on Monday. I arrived at 09:15 and found Kyle Bradford he advised me with a smirk on his face that, "There has been this bloke here at 07:30AM waiting for us to open and to take the door cards." I said what about our agreement. Him smiling again, "Well I tried to contact you." He didn't to my knowledge. There was no point to my being there so I went home. To Kyle Bradford, in the future you may be let down by someone, let us hope its not too serious for you. You should be ashamed of your self.

"MT Motors is a first class garage, always reliable, talk common sense and my 16 year old POLO with 100000+miles drives superbly."

I have dealt with MT MOTORS for a number of years on several cars, all VW and they specialise in AUDI, VW, SKODA, but do deal with others. They talk common sense and the workmanship is always excellent and considering what they have done for me and the thousandes of pounds of equipment in the workshop the costs are reasonable.
