RT Mechanics, Haslemere

My Golf had failed its MOT test at another garage due to shock absorbers. I replaced all four and for convenience got it re-tested at RT. I was surprised to see the car had failed. RT said it was due to emissions, even though it had passed on emission barely 4-5 weeks earlier. When I pointed this out, they said they would take it for a drive and re-test as that may lead to a different result. It didn't and RT quoted nearly £800 to replace plugs and other items to ensure it would pass on re-test, although offered no guarantee that it would. They also tried to charge me £160+ for taking it for a drive - a fee I had not agreed or authorised over the phone. They tried to contradict this and said they recorded all phone calls. I refused to pay. They said they would check their phones and would be in touch. I booked the car into another local garage and it sailed through its MOT the following week. I have not heard from RT.

DISAPOINTING LIES Had my Q7 serviced. Received bill + long list of items checked. This was a lie as I had coolant level issue prior and warning notified. This was ticked and also verbally confirmed. And next day a warning again so I checked, confirmed low levels and filled myself. Sure... YouTube search I found this simple, trivial. What is irritating is not the error. But the lie and denial by management & refusal to admit or refund. This process of pretend, charge, deny is what tricksters do. What else did you pretend to check but didn't? I run my own desk based engineering company. I employ 22. My team make mistakes. We admit, apply discounts, move on. When u interpret a firm like these mechanics as professional grafters & skilled, but are subjected to such dishonesty it is astonishing. Haslemere has a lot of well off and wealthy, many of whom work behind a desk & know nothing under a bonnet. Rich pickings

Took my BUS M5 in before lockdown. Car went in for some minor work but they found a cracked exhaust manifold which they said they could fix. They also charged the battery and checked the tyre pressures. The car now fills with exhaust smoke, the tyre pressures were off by up to 10 psi, and they left the top off the battery so the terminals were expossd. They did give me a long list of things that they could fix on the car though including new tyres. Would I trust these guys again? Would you?

I left the car with them for quite some time with a nasty noise, l was asked to pay £2500 for lots of work, none of which sorted the issue, l was told when l remonstrated re the non fix, they didn’t want to deal with me any longer??????

My son bought a car privately and Russ gave it a thorough once over with clear advice (happily it is a good'un) and is very prompt and courteous. We also had our XC60 in for a much needed service and MOT in previous month. It pretty much got a mid life going over with a number of items replaced. Money well spent, however, as he is clearly an expert in the marques he works on and gives clear advice with detailed costings and quotes and regular progress updates by text/phone.

Have been using RT Mechanics for 3 years now for servicing and repairs to my Volvo. Russell is a very personable owner who goes out of his way to explain any work that needs to be carried out on the car, together with a breakdown of the costs involved. He always provides a very thorough vehicle service accompanied by a thorough check of the car. His staff are always courteous and obliging, offering use of courtesy car or lifts to and from Haslemere railway station, if required. I have no hesitation in recommending RT Mechanics to others and will definitely continue to use them myself.
