My car was lacking in performance which is a 1.9 D Astra, I called up a local garage Goodfellaz who agreed to take a look. The following day I get a call from Goodfellaz stating that they have found via a diagnostic check that the diesel glow plugs are burnt, I was given a cost of £200 but warned if that sometimes when removing the glow plug can snap resulting in a further cost of £370, low behold 30 minutes later I get a call asking me for another £370 as the glow plug has snapped. They tried to scare me by saying that if I do not repair this things will shoot out of the engine!! I became suspicious of this and asked a work colleague who is a qualified mechanic his advice. Immediately he smelt a rat, faulty glow plugs WILL NOT cause performance issues they are only used to start the car up and then switch off, I have had NO start up issues at all. My colleague and I visited the garage to view the car, the glow plug was indeed snapped but my colleague proved to them that they have NOT diagnosed the car properly in fact they had not even diagnosed the performance issues which my colleague was sure was down to the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve, this would have cost no more than £ 130.00 to fix. So let’s recap, they want £200 for glow plugs, £370 to remove the broken glow plug and they have not even diagnosed the fault the car was brought in for!! I only agreed to pay the £200 as I presumed they would be fixing the performance issue, it was clear they saw me coming and the reaction in the garage confirmed this, this encounter has been recorded and will be available upon request, in the recording they admit they miss diagnosed the fault. They even became confrontational with my colleague once he proved his point even threatening him at one point, it also became apparent that none of the mechanic’s working there are qualified. The whole experience was surreal this garage is not honest and we cannot say they are Goodfellaz. I only agreed to pay £200 but they insisted I pay £420, the difficulty was I need the car back and my colleague was able to bring the cost down after he proved the miss diagnoses, in reality we could have gone to Trading Standards but still can if we decide to. Stay clear of these cowboys, they take advantage of folks that are not clued up, without my colleague I would have paid hundreds more.
