I had my Ford Ka MOT done here. I got a phone call saying there were some fails, so I said they'd better be done, but I'd walk back to the garage to discuss it. I was in the nearby town centre, and 10 minutes later I was back at the garage. When I got there, I found it impossible to deal with the assistant. When asked about the MOT, he kept saying the tyres were dangerous and needed replacing. He said I could not take the car due to the fails, and that they needed to keep it to do the work. So he arranged for a loan car, and I went home to get the paper licence. On return I again tried and failed to get information about the MOT. He was evasive and impossible to deal with. No amount of polite requests could get information from him. I left the car with them, and when it was fixed, I again tried to get information about the original MOT. He was so evasive and obnoxious that in the end I had to shout at him to get him to show me the original certificate, and I discovered that most of the issues were advisories and not fails. I was very angry. I had spent far more than the car was worth for no reason. I collected my car, and as I drove out I heard a crunch. They had parked the car next to a low metal barrier, which was invisible from approach to the car, and from inside. It had seriously dented two side panels. A week later I turned on the window screen wipers and heard a banging each time the driver side one reached the edge of the screen. I will never again deal with this garage. A year later I scrappped my Ka. In its place I bought a VW Up from a garage in Basingstoke. Servicing will be less convenient as the garage is much further away, but I refuse to have anything to do with Caffyns of Alton. In the short term (several years) they have lost business as the last service and MOT were done at the nearby Phillips garage, and they have post a potential car sale, as well as future servicing and MOTs. This is not the way for a garage to treat customers. March 31 2013: The garage closed a few months ago, and the site is being redeveloped. Result.
