Diagnostics revealed that repair would be as expensive as cost of my poor old Honda. Mike was very polite and kind on the phone, available to help as for all it is urgent when car breaks down. And they really do the diagnostics for free, unlike plenty other dodgy garages (I paid in another place for diagnostics which was wrong!). They are real specialist for gearboxes. I find it hard to believe they would impose the repair before checking with customer. It wasn't my case. I asked for diagnostics before repairing and they gave it to me. I decided not to repair and they didnt.

I took my car to automaticman from the noise it was making i was expecting a huge bill at the end of it one of the covers had come loose not only did they check it for free they did charge me for sorting it out a big thanks for sorting it out

Automatic Man rebuilt the auto box on my Mercedes E270 W211 estate last year. It has run beautifully since until the gear oil pump failed unexpectedly last week. Although this was not part of the original rebuild, Mike took the view the pump should be included in the 1 year warranty so made the repair immediately free of charge. It is rare to get such honorable service and I am very grateful.

I took my car here and Mike was initially very pleasant. But then following dismantling my gearbox without permission, he dropped an £3000 bill on me to put it back together again knowing I had no option but to pay. This garage really needs to close down and stop writing fake 5* reviews about itself, consumers deserve honest tradesmen.

I was stuck at the supermarket and couldn't get my car in gear. I had my 4 year old granddaughter with me and all my food. After my initial panic i found Automatic Man on the internet. He arranged to get my car recovered and had me back on the road in 3 days. And they didn't charge for recovery as i had the work done with them. Thank god for Automatic Man and mobile phones. Had a lovely experience with this garage after only passing my test a few months ago and being sold a terrible car! I was just about done with driving all together! I've used Mike and his staff on a few occasions. There knowledge of Automatic Gearboxes both ancient and modern is amazing. As a dealer of luxury vehicles it's of great comfort to know that they are in the hands of true professionals with a passion for what they do.

Beware of this garage, very sketchy amount of 5* reviews considering this is a small garage (can repair only 1 car at a time). I've been stung by this garage, they tricked me into taking apart my gearbox and cornered me into paying £3000 for the repair, or alternatively take me car away with no gearbox! DO NOT GO HERE

Automatic Man and the team couldn't help me enough!! I couldn't believe they offered free testing id been quoted £40 else where! They found the problem and I was back on the road in 3 days!! Honesty can not thank you guys enough! Great team Automatic Man 5*

This garage gets a 10 out of 10 from me! I contacted Mike at automatic man concerning my disabled Dad's Ford S-Max I was very concerned that he would be without a car for a long time. Mike made us feel very at ease with the whole situation, and to leave it with him. Within a week Mike had found the problem and fixed it! My Dad was back on the road in no time. Mike also offered us a free check in 500 miles!! What's a top service would highly recommend to anyone!

I was recommended to Automatic Man by a friend when my Audi S4 gearbox started playing up. I found Mike and his staff very friendly and professional. The overall service was second to none. My car once again is a pleasure to drive and it even had been cleaned when I picked it up. I would definitely have no hesitation in recommending to others.

I have had nothing but trouble from my car, engine problems, suspension issues, electrical problems and now it looks like I have automatic gearbox issues, I have had the car plugged up and it looks like smg transmission is playing up. I did some research on Google and found Automaticman last week. I spoke with the guys there and booked the car in 4 days ago. My experience using AUTOMATICMAN, who was recommended by a friend - Mike only serviced my box, with new oil and he also fitted a new cultch and flywheel and replacement diff oil. I found Mike to the point, says how it is, knowledgeable, what you see is what you get. I am pleased with the work Mike did for me. I am also happy with the overall price of the job. He quoted me 3 days to do the work and my car was completed in that time. Including parts and Labour I paid around £1100. Which I was well pleased with. Mike has offered to do my plugs and engine oil too. Overall I am glad I used him for the work on my car.

I am Uber driver & my English is not great, but after MY EXPERIANCE WITH MIKE i wanted to write review for this garage. I am a Uber driver in London, I cover many miles and services and repairs on my car are high. My gearbox broken very badly and I was unable to work, my warranty did not cover as wear and tear and I was without work causing me problems. Other garages said 1 week or 2 weeks. I explained to Mike urgency and need my car asap and willing to give him a tip and good review if he can sort. Automaticman did my car fast and back to work within 2 days very happy person and here is review as promised. Would recommend this guy to anyone! thanks bro.

I will keep this review as short as I can and give you my experience of using mike at automatic man gearbox services. I like many others did my research and looked around for not only the best price but a garage with the most experience; I found Mike very helpful and sorted my car without any problems. Drop it off one day and 2 days later collect. I was so pleased I decided to write a review and hope this helps others when looking for another garage. I tried 2 other London garages and felt automaticman was the right choice for me. It was probably a little further to travel, but well worth the petrol and the time to get across London to him. It needed a new sensor, as well as new gearbox oil. Over all inc labour and parts was just under £170. Mr Cox

I believe reviews are very important and where possible I leave GOOD and BAD reviews how I see fit my experience was. I am active on most forums and could be called a keyboard warrior at times. I have probably left more BAD reviews than good, but in this case here with my cars gearbox service I felt I had to take to the keyboard and give my experience for others to read. I had my gearbox services but automaticman not so long ago, I found his prices were half that of another garage I took my car too, and have been very pleased with how my car is driving and changing gears since. All problems are solved and the car feels like now again. I would recommend this guy to anyone. Davis J

My BMW M3 2009 SMG Gearbox was trashed and needed to be rebuilt: I tracked my car regularly and have used the launch control about 5 times since I have owned it from new. Driving on the M25 over Christmas Christmas traveling 60MPH I heard grinding sounds from under the car, then gearbox failure with a countless fault messages on the screen, I had no drive, soon as I got to the hard shoulder it went to N and did nothing, despite switching off the car and back on again. I eventually got the car to automaticman (was a recommendation from a friend of a friend) on 3rd or 4th of Jan. I collected my car today and was very impressed as I was told that the gearbox basically needed to be rebuild and was shown all the parts that were replaced, has the clutch and flywheel was worn, I got these change at the same time. I am seriously considering getting warranty out for my M3. Thanks guys, hope my review helps. Chris.

Important Feedback – I used this garage last week as my wife’s car broke down. I called the AA and was advised that the gearbox was at fault. We are based in London and there are plenty of garages near me. I decided to myself that we should shop around to get quotes – and here was the big problem! The AA offered 2 options recover her car to local garage or my home (as she was within 20 miles from home). The AA person says that this Gearbox is a complicated unit and that I need a garage that understands these in detail. But I had the car recovered to my home, so phoning a few specialists I found none was prepared to give me a quote over the phone and needed to see the car first or had any idea what it could be- a waste of time. Until I found Automatic Gearbox Man. Spoke to the owner and he put my mind at rest, as in once I told him the make of car and what happened, he suggested it could be only one of 3 things inside the gearbox and provided me a rough quote for each of the different faults including worst case and best case. Cars back on the road and happy wife! Reasonably priced and quick turnaround. I would recommend this garage.

Having problems with my Mercedes I took my car to two different garages that tried to sort the problem out. I found none of had a clue about my cars box. I found Automatic Man on the Internet and they were offering a free diagnostic test. Not many places offer a free diagnostic and its usualy between £50 and £100 - They diagnosed the fault as an ECU problem, which in fact cost me less to put right than I had paid the other two supposed specialists who basicly said I needed a new box. My car is now absolutely fine. I am still waiting for my invoice. Dan

I took my Jaguar to a local dealer. They told me that changing the oil and filter would cure the problem and cost me £500. I drove my vehicle for a few days but it had actually made the problem worse. I took my car into Mike and he took the time to explain to me that changing the oil and filter does not make the transmission unworn. I felt totally comfortable to leave my Jag in his hands. I got it back on time and in budget and working like new again. I would recommend their services to anyone. Friendly advice and good service.

Mike heads up this little gem of an automatic gearbox centre. I have had need to use his services on a number of occasions going back almost ten years. He's always there for me with a free road test here or a free fault find there. Sometimes I'm lucky and walk away without charge if it's just a re-set and other times he does a repair or a professional total reconditioning which is cheaper than going to dealers where you can hand them your house keys sometimes! His honesty is disarming and his abilities are rarified. This man does things dealers will not touch, I kid you not. I could fill all the stars below but I don't want to give him a big head do I?

Do not go to this garage, they will rip you off. I recently experienced problems with the transmission system of my car, a low mileage (48,000) 2005 C180 Mercedes. The transmission appeared to be slipping and when I researched this on the internet I discovered that the most likely cause was a low level of transmission fluid. The advice from several sources was to check oil / fluid levels first before any further investigation. My local garage advised that I should go to a transmission specialist. I took my car to Automatic Man on Friday 6 November 2015 where I was advised that this was a mechanical fault and was definitely not caused by a low level of transmission fluid. The garage owner told me that this would cost £800 + VAT minimum, up to £1500 + VAT. When I asked again "are you sure this is not just caused by low transmission fluid level?" he said no, however he looked guilty and appeared very nervous. I decided to get a second opinion and went to another garage where the transmission fluid level was checked which was immediately found to be the cause of the problem. After topping up the fluid level the fault was completely cured. (I was advised to check on the next service whether the fluid was still leaking as a new gasket might be needed). Total cost for the repair was £20. The behaviour of the owner of Automatic Man amounts to fraud. As a transmission specialist he would be fully aware that low fluid level was the most likely cause of the problem, and should have checked this first before quoting me an outrageous figure for carrying out the repair. He was fully prepared to charge me £1500 plus VAT for a £20 top up of transmission fluid.

Let me start off by saying maybe it's just me. I may well change this review but at the moment I stand by it I first contacted this garage on the 20/6/15. I was ringing round for quotes and they made it on my shortlist of 3 While the price was on par with the other 2 I went with them because of the turnaround time I was given, (4 DAYS. My car was dropped off on the 22/6/15 It's now the 14/7/15 and my car is still there What's pissed me off is not the fact that it's taking nearly a month, it's the fact that they have never called me to give any updates. I called every week and all I kept getting was it will be ready monday I went there last saturday 11/7/15 as they're open on saturdays... Guess what, THEY WERE BLOODY CLOSED. I got on the phone and was told once again it would be ready monday, I asked if that was a definite, I was told YES It's now tuesday the 14/7/15 and I've had no call so I'll be paying them a visit and one way or another I will be taking my car Below is a section to rate this garage. The minimum you can give is 1 star, however I don't think they deserve any in certain category Would I recommend this garage to a friend? I made a point to go to Automatic Man for a repair to my gearbox after I saw a few really good reviews on forums, including this review site. I think the two earlier reviews are spot on, Automatic Man did a really really good job! My gearbox stopped working so I took it in. I didn't pay a lot of money, the job was done quickly and the team of mechanics were all very friendly and explained everything to me, now I have a much wider knowledge of my car. Automatic Man are a top garage, quality work, decent price and I was back on the road in no time!

I went to Automatic Man for a repair to my Nissan Micra 1.3. The problem was in the gearbox, and it wasn't shifting through the gears easily at all, then stopped at gear three, and wouldn't go any higher. I had gone to other garages, they had 'repaired' the fault in my car, though in a matter of weeks, sometimes days, the problem was coming through again and I was back to square one! I was about to give up hope and just buy a new car, until I saw a review on Automatic Man. I thought, why not, one more try and if they fail I'll get a new car. I sought the help of the little Acton garage, with not much faith, but much to my amazement, they fixed the problem! They did it in literally no time at all AND the problems have not come back since! I love my Micra, and thanks to the brilliant servicing from Automatic Man, I am still able to drive it!

I’ve read much advice in the past about where to take your car when an automatic gearbox overhaul or replacement is required. At the end of last Year, I took my failed 11 year old Audi A8 Quattro Tiptronic, (with 141,000 miles covered) to Automatic Man in Davis Road, Acton, due to geographic expediency. Due to what turned out to be a virtually undetectable fault in the ECU on the underneath of my car, it became necessary for this company to change the complete ZF gearbox internals (and one new casing) on no less than three occasions – but all of this extra work was completed without question or charge under their warranty - in a timely and courteous manner. My car is now performing faultlessly – and I therefore feel that Automatic Man deserve a clear recommendation.
