Miles of smiles

I owned an original mark one in the 1990s which had to go due to an expanding family. I bought this one on impulse. Five years old one lady owner 5000 miles!. It’s been my daily drive for the last eight years and has now covered 38,000 miles. I also have a sensible 5 seater stat car for long distance journeys with the family & dog although the dog does come out on day trips when it’s not too warm on my wife’s lap with a specialist seatbelt harness from the RAC! The solid powered roof is only up in the rain. The car is parked outside all year and has been regularly driven roof down in ice snow and light rain. Mechanically the car is excellent, handling is superb and you can even have fun at 20 mph driving around a small roundabout.
I am fortunate to have a specialist MX5 garage nearby so my running costs are very low. In the last two years I have needed new brake discs and one set of calipers. I keep looking at the latest model but I don’t want to go to a soft top and the RF is flawed as when the roof is down the rear visibility is extremely poor with wierd wind reverberations at speed.
The 2 L has just the right amount of power the six speed gearbox is silky smooth when warmed up and the short throw is only beaten by my BMW ZF 8 speed automatic box with paddle shift.
If you’re in the market for a small two seater sports car get out there and buy one - you won’t be disappointed.
