Why does my car need a new head gasket only two years after the last one?

I had a new water pump on my car, then two days later it packed up again. I took it to back garage and he said to me that I need a new head gasket, which we only had done two years ago. Is it the garage's fault for damaging the head gasket?

The two may or may not be connected but it is a "chicken and egg" story. Some models are prone to head gasket failure, so having a new one two years ago does not mean much. See if you can negotiate a discounted price for completing the work. If you don't trust, them seek a second opinion.
