Shoddy garage work - am I entitled to compensation?

A wheel bolt has been cross-threaded into the rear hub of my 2001 VW Polo SDI. My local garage has advised that, as a result of this, the rear hub will need to be replaced at a cost of £138.

A new tyre was fitted to this wheel in August 2010. Since this date, to the best of my knowledge, no work has been done to the rear wheel/brakes which would have involved removing the bolts. This is corroborated by servicing invoices and MOT certificates.

In light of the time that has elapsed, the company which fitted the tyre has refused to accept any liability due to possibility that the damage was caused by a different garage in the intervening period.

For the reasons outlined above, I strongly doubt that this was the case. Would you advise me to pursue this matter in the small claims court or by any other means?

No, because too much time has passed for you to prove your case.
