Built to look good and last about a year.

Having been a tesla driver now for 18 months (14 driving it and 4 waiting for parts to be delivered) I can say that this car gives me the most mixed reactions of any car I have owned. You want to love it. It does move incredibly well in a straight line and it gives you goosebumps to use the torque on a good road. However when it comes to the day to day driving of the car in traffic and long journies you realise that apart from the great speed, everything else about the car makes you question the sanity of the designers. 70k plus and you need to keep blankets in the car due to the fact that if you wish to get to your destination using your in car heating is not an option. Using your sat nav requires you to plan out every step of your journey. Yes you can get to your destination but you cannot go anywhere else. When planning around the half hour charge you also have to factor in the queue for the charger that can take up to an hour. Have had the car back to the dealer many times due to shocking build quality. Front seat lasted 15 months before leather wore through. Door handles stopped working. Driver assistance feature don't work as often as they do. Range is a joke and requires you to drive under 65 and sometimes even 55 to get to a destanantion. Interior has no pockets or centre console so snakes and drinks roll around the passenger foot well. Cruise control is very poor and so are the so called safety features this car boasts about. The claim it has anti collision has been proved to be a complete lie and I do not have any confidence in the autopilot. Service centres don't have spair parts and don't even stock tyres for the car. Appointments need to be booked 3 weeks in advance. Interior trim is so lacking in quality and the finish so poor you wonder where the money you spent went. Repairs are unbleavabley expensive to the point it is difficult to get insurance.

I could go on but the point is the car looks great. It has fantastic acceleration and the iPad is a wonderful toy. The problem is this car is just one big toy and not made for the real world. Acceleration is great but it comes at the price of massive loss of range. Cabin is so minimalist that it looks great but has no practical use to the driver. Charges are a dream of what might be but with model 3 coming soon to bleach all the charges and the prospect of sharing the spa*** network with jaguar it dose not bode well.

If you want a green weekend toy for round town and don't plan on making the long journies (200 miles or more) then this might make a nice driveway decoration. If you actually need a car to go somewhere and don't have hours a day to spend sitting waiting for charges then this is not the car for you
