"Rude and unhelpful salesman"

By STUART HUGHES, 26 November 2016

My wife, 2 children and I have just returned from a surreal experience at this car dealership. We arrived to test drive a couple of their cars. We made it clear that we didn't need finance. He seemed to lose interest in us from from that point. The (anti) sales guy seemed determined not to allow any test drives right from the start. After a very frustrating exchange where it became evident that he couldn't actually be bothered to move the cars around, he called me a 'professional test driver''. Not true. Since I'm in the market for new car and am currently test driving a few on the top 5 list, I'd call myself only a temporary test driver! Anyhow, all left a very bitter taste in the mouth and certainly not somewhere I'd ever consider spending several thousand pounds.

"Rude, rip off, not worth going through their stress, poor services and incompetent workers"

They work with Stevenage Motor Centre, selling cars that are not in good condition, give three months warranty and continue to ignore and avoid you until your warranty runs out. They will asked you to bring your car for repair, park it in their garage and call you, it is done in the following day while nothing was done on it. I will advise you to stay away from their trouble because, the stress does not worth it. My reason for writing this is because, I bought a car from them and had roof leaking problem with the car from my first day of purchase. They refused to resolve the problem. They ignored me totally. They know what they are doing by making their customer vulnerable and then tell them to go and make their claim legally.

"The rudest service I have ever encountered."

By andyjn, 24 January 2016

If you want to be shouted at and belittled by a car dealer, buy a car here. I bought a 59 plate Ford Fiesta through Stevenage Motor Centre (same company) on the first of August 2015. By the 11th of September it was found to have an oil leak, and after cleaning up and failing to notice the source of the leak it was taken in to the garage in October, as the exhaust heat shield fell out whilst I was driving. I was told they would take a look at the leak, which they did not. In January I had a powertrain failure light on the dash and took the car straight to Pound Avenue Garage after having spoken to SMC and the finance company. The head mechanic took a look, cleared the fault code and told me to go and continue driving the car to see if it would come back. He all but ignored the oil leak which was still present. Fast forward a week and the light has come back, so I go back to the garage. The owner Marco met me there, and I told him that I had been advised by the finance company that I could return the car for a refund, if he could not repair the car. He proceeded to shout at me, cut me off mid sentence and generally abuse me for a half hour argument, and it was only after phoning the finance company he agreed to repair the car. He said out of courtesy it'd be free, which according to the law seeing as the car developed the fault before the dealer warranty ended it should be anyway. £6.99 rocker gasket replaced over the next four days and I got my car back. I had received a phone call on Friday saying the car was out of diesel and it needed more, I had delivered the car to them with 34 miles of range left. The next day the oil leak was back and I had the powertrain light back, they had not looked at this at all. It was quickly joined by the engine fault light. I managed to limp into Pound Avenue with the car smoking and was told that the turbo is showing an under boost message, and that I'd have to pay for a new rocker cover and potentially a new turbo. Marco accused me of having tightened the bolts down myself, and said he had “photographic evidence I’m not putting fuel in the car”. His mechanic had already told me that the car “had been taken for a good run round on Friday Night” I said that he told me on the previous Friday he'd "either repair the car for free or gladly give you your money back", and that I think he should do that. He said "oh don't start that again, or we're going to have another falling out". I reminded him that it was exactly what he said, and that the car had been returned to me in an even worse condition than when I brought it in. He slammed the bonnet down, said "I tell you what, you've got no warrantee with me, you did this to the car yourself, and you can get back in it and f*** off". The investigation into him by the finance company is ongoing. Thankfully, Hitchin Audi have agreed to take the car despite it's faults for a part exchange. Their service is amazing.

I disagree with the negative comments about the service given here. I have visited few garages in the area and found Pound avenue to be the most friendly and helpful with the best deal given of them all. The salesman was polite and helped me decide what would be best for me after listening to my needs. Although the whole dealing process was quick I didn't feel rushed or pressured into making my decision. I left feeling extremely satisfied after today's visit and want to take this opportunity to once again thank the staff for their help.

Have been waiting for a part for my car, they keep having the wrong one delivered, made out that giving me a courtesy car, they were doing me a favour. Very rude, no customer service skills what so ever, avoid at all costs. Have taken my car to another garage. Marco is particularly rude.

Pound Avenue Car Sales is a superb company with first rate staff. Most people dread using car dealerships but this place is a true example of great business, and has proved to be my best experience of purchasing a car to date. Talk to Damien. He is a no-nonsense car dealer, very knowledgeable about his field and will answer any question you care to fling at him without consultation. Yes, he may drive a bargain but I challenge you to find a car dealer who doesn’t. In fact, his bargaining was fair and pleasant in comparison to other car dealers I have dealt with in the past. He was open to hearing my thoughts regarding the part exchange I was proposing and went the extra mile to ensure I purchased a car that completely suited my needs. Unlike other salesmen, Damien paid attention to my personal interests while discussing my requirements. It led to us sharing tales of our families and travel experiences, making it both a personable and enjoyable experience – a rarity, I’d say. In the end, I purchased a 2008 Peugeot at a fair price. This garage deals with quality vehicles so bear that in mind when negotiating. These are not run-of-the-mill vehicles. You can tell this is a firm that prides itself on excellence, so you can rest assured that you’ll be driving away with a long-lasting car in great condition. The transaction proved to be an equally smooth process. The paperwork was efficiently taken care of, all I had to do was sign on the dotted line. But, for me, the post-purchase service was where this company really shone. A few weeks after driving away with my new car, I was required to renew my tax. Unfortunately DVLA took too long with posting my new keeper documents, meaning I was unable to renew my tax online or in the post office. Not knowing what to do, I called Damien’s mobile in panic. On the day I phoned, Damien was out of the office celebrating his birthday over a meal with his family. Remarkably, he jumped straight onto the case – even personally arranging for a colleague to go into the post office and sort everything out on my behalf. It was a level service I have not encountered before and, dare say, am unlikely to again. I would recommend this car dealership without hesitation. If you’re looking to pick up a new set of - quality - wheels, buy your next car here from Damien. You won’t regret it.

"avoid !"

Went to this garage to view a car seen online. Firstly we were ushered into an office with a sales man who had just polished off some of stevenages finest fried chicken which in an enclosed space smells rotten. He sat us down and talked through finance on the car which was up for nearly 13K. Then we were finally given a key to look around it, I was fairly disapointed but my partner liked the car so wanted a test drive. However after being extremely rude regarding how much my partners car was worth and pretty much trying to get scrap money for a car which would get 2K easily on ebay let alone a forecourt he point blank refused a test drive unless we wanted to do the deal first. Sorry but only an idiot would buy 13Ks worth of car without a drive first no matter how many sarcastic comments the dealer made like 'if you dont think its a nice car then there is something wrong with you' then telling us he had no time for us because he had a family wanting to drive another car. Yes we are young but does not reflect our financial situation no matter how many shocked faces you pull when the finance company granted finance. No it is not my 'lucky day'

Came here to look at an 8 thousand pound Renault scenic. Salesman reluctantly gave me a test drive after taking all my details. Felt like he was doing me a massive favour. He drove at 70mph in 40 zone then got out to let me drive. Gave me the hard sell and was frankly rude. Liked the car but didn't buy it due does technique.

"bought a car"

I bought a vauxhall corsa at this garage. Customer service was brilliant. Really happy with everything overall. However, I believe that car should have been at least a 500 pounds cheaper comparing to other retailers. After buying the car I notice that the driver side mirror was falling off(small detail). However, I have already recommended the garage to friends and family members. Really happy with everything at the moment. DAMIEN, SALES PERSON WAS GREAT!

"Reliable, friendly service"

I visited Pound Avenue Garage as I needed a bulb replaced and thought I might need a new windscreen wiper for my Citroen C3. I was informed that I actually needed two bulbs and a wiper. They replaced the bulbs immediately and told me to come back the next day when they would have sourced a wiper - they asked for no payment until the work was finished. I returned the next day and the wiper was replaced. When I came to pay, the receptionist started to say "thir...", so I was expecting thirty-something pounds which I would have been happy to pay, as single bulbs have cost me over £10 to replace in the past at other garages. The cost was actually £13.74. I subsequently booked my car in there for its MoT - and found that they would even collect the car from my office and return it afterwards. I cannot fault the service provided.
