How do you advise I drive my diesel Peugeot 2008 to avoid DPF issues?

I have a Peugeot 2008 1.6-litre BlueHDI. I'm aware that travelling very short journeys is not good for diesel cars. However, occasionally it is unavoidable to undertake such journeys. Is it beneficial to start the engine and let it idle for a period of 10 or 20 minutes before making this sort of trip? Driving at 70 mph, the car is still a little under 2000rpm. Would you go as far as to advise me to drive in a lower gear to keep to 2000rpm or above?

Definitely not. Beneficial to drive it further, keeping revs to 2000rpm or higher. Must be geared at about 35mph per 1000rpm and the speedo is slightly under reading. But you'll be okay at just under 2000rpm. It's trying to keep the revs below 1500rpm for economy that stops the DPF regenerating passively.
