My Audi A3 is losing power and misfiring - what's wrong with it?

I've got an Audi A3 TDI 2-litre. It suddenly started misfiring and jerking while I was on the motorway. Now its got worse and is losing a lot of power. It sounds like a tractor. I have to rev it very high in order to even move an inch. Have you heard of any A3s with similar problems?

Its sounds as though your car has gone into "limp mode". If so, the first thing is to get a diagnostic check done, which should then show up fault codes which can indicate what the problem may be. It is best to do this first rather than just guessing what may be the problem.
