How often should I change the cambelt on my campervan?

We have a 2012 Fiat Ducato-based campervan with 20,000 miles, but agreed at a recent service that the cambelt could wait until next year's service. Then I read the advice in the review of the Fiat Ducato van: "Belt cam diesels need a fresh belt every three years". Am I being unwise and should I now bite the bullet and have the cambelt changed for peace of mind?

For standard Fiat Ducato vans – covering very high mileages, in a very short space of time – a cam belt change every three years is advisable. Otherwise I'd recommend having it changed every five years for light use, such as a camper.
