Why won't the stop-start on my Smart Fourtwo work?

I am being told by Smart that the stop-start on my Smart Fourtwo will not work when the external temperature is outside of a suitable range. Today the extenal temperature is 9C, and it still won't operate. How hot does it have to be to function? I believe that Smart has not designed the system correctly, or that I am being fobbed off. I have owned 3 Smart cars a never had this problem before

Depends on operating conditions generally, not merely temperature. If you are not driving the car far enough after each start, you won't be putting enough into the battery for the stop/start to work.
