How many miles will the Skoda Octavia really do the gallon?

There has been much talked about mpg figures for VW group. I have just leased a Skoda Octavia Estate 1.2 petrol auto. I had a 200 mile round trip to Cambridge via M25/M11 and got 49mpg. Another trip to Reading (60 miles M25/M4) gave me 54mpg. Does your experience reflect this observation?

Real MPG shows an average of 46.8mpg for the Octavia 1.2TSI DSG. You can add your figures at www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg
