Audi A3 engine failure

The engine of my 2010 Audi A3 2.0 petrol has failed. It was recovered to my local independent garage who found no compression on one of the cylinders, suggesting serious damage. Monday they can start removing the head to investigate. I'm suspecting the chain tensioner failed, allowing the chain to slip.

This car has always been serviced by the main dealer. Surely a failure of this kind at 61,000 miles is unacceptable by modern standards?

May be a stretched chain; may be a failed piston oil ring, may be coked up valves. These are the three common reasons for failure of these unfortunately not very reliable engines.
