Nissan Micra CVT gearbox issues - a common problem?

We bought a Nissan Micra CVT in March 2011 it has done 44,000 miles. It is my wife's pride and joy and was her first brand new car, we are advised that it needs a new gear box. Have you had similar complaints from other owners?

Yes. Nissan CVT's have not been good. This must be a Micra K13 (the current model). I think that if the car has been properly maintained by Nissan dealers with a fluid change at 3 years old then you should be in for some goodwill from Nissan.
