Why is the gearshift in my new Toyota Yaris of such poor quality?

I purchased a new Toyota Yaris from a dealer in Bury, Lancs a year ago. I complained at the first service recently about 'poor shift quality' when changing gears - in particular the lower gears. The diagnosis was that the transmission cables were not adjusted to the optimum settings. There has been no improvement following this adjustment made by the dealer. Please can you advise me on my next course of action?

Ask for the transmission oil to be changed to fully synthetic. In order to get the car under 120g/km Toyota used a special low friction oil in the transmission, but it appears that this does not lubricate the gears well enough. It's a common complaint.
