I am looking to replace my VW Polo and would be grateful for your advice on the best small car with zero road tax I have been thinking about the Toyota Aygo. My driving is mainly around the town and I was considering buying new although nearly new would be suitable 3 or 5-door, petrol engine. I am a lady in my seventies with some mobility problems due to arthritis, and I do carry some elderly passengers, although this is not the deciding factor.

The Aygo isn't zero road tax after the first year. From the 2nd year it's
£20 (no big deal). I'd go for a Hyundai i10 1.2 instead (£30 tax). Or a Suzuki Splash 1.0 (also £30 tax). For short runs I don’t recommend a diesel with a diesel particulate filter even if it is under 100g/km and free of annual tax.
