Are three-cylinder engines reliable?

Ford had a big problem with the 1.0 EcoBoost losing its coolant from a weakness in the degas (steam) pipe from the water-cooled turbo to the expansion tank, but that is now fixed. PSA's 1.2 Puretech has been exceptionally reliable. Volkswagen's 1.0 three-cylinder engines have been good so far. Ford's new chain cam 1.5 EcoTech should be very good because of the lessons learned from the 1.0 EcoBoost.
