"Good cars ruined by poor servicing"

By scottmelvin, 14 July 2020

My first service on the 06/08/2019. Invoice number:307459 Customer service was excellent very friendly , however the technician "Declan" who serviced my car did not know to put an o-ring in my oil filter cap instead he choose to just to torque the cap. This resulted in a catastrophic oil loss . Result could have been a scrap engine just fortunately the car had came to stop and turned off immediately. 4 litres of oil all over my engine and drive. Do not take your car to specialist cars for servicing if this what happens , the o-ring even comes with the new filter do obviously needs fitted, if we were doing 70mph who knows what could have happened. Job no:263554 Come June and a hot day. The car stops dead at a roundabout. AA recovered as can not fix it roadside. Common secondary fuel pump ECU failure usually in hot climates due to overheating. Aberdeen have never heard of this issue very uncommon even though VW have recalled this issue in many other countries. However they happen to have the part in stock and is fixed within 3hours. Great good job the part is only £109. However my next surprise is the labour cost of 3 hours = £445 then add vat for a total of £545. No problem as my car is an approved used vw with a warranty untill Sep 2020. Not likely as specialists cars warranty company that they sell with there cars will not recognise the warranty as I bought the car privately and not directly from showroom. "They will honour the 2year servicing but not the 2 year extended warranty" David Carson. (Vw service manager) Will I be back to get my second service from Specialist cars, absolutely not. They have a fast turnaround but at a very expensive cost. Best avoided save money and go to a good idependent garage that know how to fit oil filters and don't charge £138 an hour.

"A poor garage which turned a perfectly good car into a nightmare"

Bought new Citigo from the dealership. 10k service went well, during second service (20k) they asked me to authorise front brake clean for £80 which they told me was a mandatory part of the service (unusual when I had what I thought was an all encompassing 3 year service plan!). I relucantly did and then they proceeded in messing up the front disks which warped on way home. After complaining and being told nothing wrong took to another dealer. Now at 36k and I have now had 3x new front disk sets and new hubs and the problem has started again. Also found out recently after paying £131 between services for sticking back brakes to be fixed at new dealer that back brakes had never been touched. This was supposed to be part of 20k service. In summary, I would not take my car to them again since they did the service incorrectly and missed important parts of the service out.

"not as good as i expected"

i paid £349 for 3yr servicing + 1st mot. 1st service they contacted me, 2nd service i had to take in proof i had paid for 3yr service plan . on 3rd service no tel call to remind me so i contacted on 3rd sept got booked in on 11th. warranty + mot run out on 7th sept. mentioned alloys starting to deteriorate service agent called someone who said they were not prepared to do anything even though car had only done 6944 mls. it,s not been off road also is parked up on drive never on street. it,s an escape & the alloys have gone already so does that mean not fit for purpose ??? . i then contacted vw.uk who told me to take car back to sp cars got 4 wheels photographed . who deemed not a manufacture fault & the guarantee starts when car shipped & i could buy new alloys with 2yr guarantee at reduced price of £653. so in 3yrs time am back where i was with 4 corroded alloys minus £653. my main gripe is when i wen,t to collect new car they had forgot to register private plate on carso it was put in storage at my request for a few weeks until it was registered for which i was compensated . but am now paying price for their mistake with car being out of warranty. this was 1st new car will be my last especially a vw. who makes cars with good alloys ???

"First Class Customer Service"

By AberdeenAndy, 19 May 2014

My car, a 4 year old Tiguan, bought new from Specialist Cars, was in for an MOT and an A/C service and the A/C did not work after the Service. I took the car back to have the A/C checked, and was advised the compressor needed replacing, but as it was inexpensive repair, they said they would contact VW about making a contribution... a couple of days later they clued to say they would split the cost with VW, and try to their word, the compressor was replaced free of charge. Given that they also replaced my front springs free of charge at it's first MOT, I consider their service to be absolutely first class.

"Bad quality service for high price"

By Pinkie14, 11 March 2013

Picked up my car from four years service and the sides of the car were all scratched, the Specialist Cars Aberdeen refuses to take any responsibility for the damage claiming it was there already. It's a very disappointing experience after buying the car and having it always serviced there. Bad quality service for high price.

"worrying customer service UPDATED...."

I bought an approved used VW Scirocco from them a few weeks ago. It was sold to me by the salesman as having had one former owner. When I got the V5, I found I was the 4th owner! Hey, Im fair, I told them I wasnt happy about it, as the vehicle would be worth less when I came to change it next year. I made a totally reasonable request for a free service to offset the lost value brought about by the extra owners on the V5. They arent the slightest bit interested. Salesman has never returned any of my 4 phonecalls or 2 emails. I sent a letter to the MD to complain, but no reply there either! Next step is a letter to John Clark, the overall Boss of the Specialist Cars group - see if he has any interest in responding! If not then its a formal complaint to VW UK. Poor customer service. I have never known a garage so bad for taking your money and then totally and utterly ignoring you. Im in the market for the new Golf GTI next year, at a cost of £27000+ I certainly wont be going to specialist cars VW to order it. UPDATE...... I went to the next stage and wrote to the overall group boss. Im delighted to say that this got things moving. Within 2 days I had a letter from the MD offering me the chance to change the car or. 2 years free servicing. Thank you specialist cars, its a real pity that it took so much work to get sorted out. Im now changing the Scirocco for a Golf which I will collect next week. I now have my faith in the garage restored and am especially thankful to the overall group boss, John Clark for ensuring this was sorted out. Well done! I have amended my scores to reflect the much improved service.
